At Roggenart, we bring people together around something made with care. This October, our pastry case means a little more.

From October 16 through October 22, every Roggenart location is taking part in Bakes for Breast Cancer with a limited edition Raspberry Almond Frangipane. Every Raspberry Almond Frangipane this week supports Breast Cancer Research. We are committed to donating proceeds from every sale to fund research directly, with one goal in mind: finding a cure.

What Is Frangipane?

Frangipane is a rich almond cream that European bakeries have loved for centuries. The story goes that the name comes from the Frangipani family, Italian nobles of the 1500s, and a perfume scented with bitter almond. French pastry chefs took the idea into the kitchen. They folded ground almonds, butter, sugar and eggs into a soft, fragrant filling. In the oven it turns golden at the edges and stays tender in the middle. It’s the kind of pastry you smell before you see.

How We Make Ours

Like everything in our case, our Raspberry Almond Frangipane is made from scratch daily, in small batches. It starts with a buttery pastry crust. We fill it with almond cream, press in fresh raspberries, and bake it until the top is golden and the berries just begin to burst. Sweet, nutty and a little tart. Fair warning: one slice tends to turn into two.

Why It Matters

Breast cancer touches nearly all of us, whether through a mother, a sister, a friend, a coworker or our own story. Bakes for Breast Cancer brings bakeries and their communities together to fund research that moves us closer to a cure. We can’t think of a better reason to bake.
