Our Story

Our name, “Roggenart”, literally means “the art of rye” in German, a testament to our dedication to traditional craftsmanship and the simple, high-quality ingredients that form the heart of our creations.

Founded in June 2017 by Neman Popov, Roggenart was born from a passion for European café culture and a desire to create a “feel-good place” where guests could savor artisanal treats in a cozy, inviting atmosphere. We pride ourselves on baking everything from scratch daily, in small batches, ensuring unparalleled freshness and flavor.

Ellicott City, MD: Paving the road to pastry

We're so proud to be part of the vibrant and historic community of Ellicott City. Founded in 1772 by three Quaker brothers, Ellicott City—originally known as Ellicott's Mills—was a pioneering industrial center. It quickly became one of the largest milling towns in the East, revolutionizing farming in the region by persuading local farmers to plant wheat instead of tobacco. The town's historical significance is also marked by its role as the first terminus of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, and you can still visit the nation's oldest surviving railroad station right on Main Street. We are honored to contribute to this legacy of craftsmanship and community by providing a welcoming space for you to gather and enjoy our authentic European-style breads, pastries, and meals.
