March 2 is a day we truly love celebrating in our cafés because it brings together two of life’s greatest pleasures, reading and good food. Read Across America Day was created by the National Education Association to encourage people of all ages to rediscover the joy of books. The date was chosen to honor the birthday of Dr. Seuss, whose stories have inspired generations of readers to use their imagination and curiosity.
As a bakery café, we see every day how powerful it can be when someone sits down with a book and a warm drink. Our spaces are designed to feel welcoming and comfortable, perfect for turning a few quiet minutes into an hour of escape. In honor of Women’s History Month, we also wanted to highlight cookbooks written by remarkable women who changed the way people cook and think about food.
At the top of our list is Julia Child, whose passion for French cuisine helped shape modern home cooking. Her books Mastering the Art of French Cooking and My Life in France remain timeless guides for anyone who loves food and storytelling. We also recommend Alice Waters and her book The Art of Simple Food, which celebrates fresh ingredients and thoughtful preparation.
Two additional favorites include Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by Samin Nosrat and Magnolia Table by Joanna Gaines. Each of these books tells a story about food, family, and creativity, making them perfect companions for an afternoon at the café.
Today we invite guests to bring a favorite book, order a latte or pastry, and spend time reading in one of our cozy corners. In a busy world, slowing down with a story can feel like a small luxury. Pair it with a croissant or a slice of cake and it becomes something even better, a moment of calm and inspiration.
